I get it now

Dear Dad…

I’m sorry for all the nights I went to bed angry with you. I was just tired.

I’m sorry I wanted pizza instead of Spam, Idaho Spuds and Del Monte Peas. I thought it was your favorite meal and didn’t know times were tough that year.

I’m sorry for the moments I acted out at school. I had no idea it caused you pain.

I’m thankful that you gave me twice the same discipline at home that I received at school, even if it meant writing an additional 100 sentences.

I’m thankful that you taught me to respect a gun and the wild so I would be able to responsibly fill our freezer 25 years later.

I’m thankful that you taught me proper keyboarding technique even though it made my wrists hurt. I use this skill every day.

I’m sorry that I never said thank you nearly enough.

I get it now.

Love
Your son who is becoming that kind of Dad
